Inpatients

An inpatient service is available to most wards and units Monday to Friday, and a response to initial/new patient referrals will be made within 2 working days from receipt of referral, or within 1 working day if the patient requires a specialised therapeutic diet which is not available from the standard hospital menu options.
 
Wards are visited weekly (minimum standard) by a dedicated, named dietitian who works as part of a team.
 
Referrals can be made by patients, relatives, health professionals and other agencies (e.g. Social Services, voluntary).
 
Referrals are accepted if they follow the criteria.

Daycase

A daycase / daycase service is available to most wards / units Monday to Friday, and a response to initia / new patient referral will be made within 2 working days from receipt of referral, or within 1 working day if the patient requires a specialist therapeutic diet which is not available from the standard hospital menu options.
 
Daycas / daycare wards / units are visited weekly (minimum standard) by a dedicated named dietitian who works as part of a team.
 
Referrals can be made by patients, relatives, health professionals and other agencies (e.g. Social Services, voluntary).
 
Referrals are accepted if they follow the criteria.

Outpatient

Outpatients referred to the service are either seen in:
 
  • General dietetic outpatient clinics (on day of referral or booked at a later date)
  • Joint Consultant / multi-professional / team outpatient clinics e.g. diabetes, renal, paediatric, allergy, gastroenterology, on all three sites (normally on day of referral)

 
A bleep / pager service is provided on all three sites for urgent referrals.
 
Referrals can be made by patients, relatives, health professionals and other agencies (e.g. Social Services, voluntary).
 
Referrals are accepted if they follow the criteria.

Patient Client Sessions

Therer are a range of nutrition and dietary education sessions provided by the Nutrition and Dietetic Service.  These include:
 
  • Cardiac rehabilitation
  • Diabetes
  • Coeliac disease
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Renal disease
 
The Nutrition and Dietetic Service also provides regular support and input to Leicestershire Patient Support Groups such as:
 
  • Leicestershire Coeliac Group
  • Leicestershire Diabetes Group
  • Leicestershire Multiple Sclerosis Group
  • Leicestershire Parkinsons Group
  • Leicestershire Osteoporosis Group
  • Leicestershire Patients on Intravenous and Nasogastric Nutrition Therapy (PINNT)
