Help with Weight Loss

The aim of weight management is to achieve energy balance at the healthiest weight or Body Mass Index - this may mean an initial weight loss.  Supporting patients to achieve a moderate weight loss of 5-10% is clinically beneficial and a realistic goal for many.  After 6-12 months, a goal of weight maintenance could be considered, rather than continuously striving for an ideal weight range.  Weight managment should promote measurable and realistic lifestyle changes that can be sustained and will reduce the risk of co-morbidities.  Some patients respond well to a goal setting approach, others prerer a more prescribed approach.
